Structure: Females of this species placed in a cold alkaline solution color it dark red, and when heated, the color intensity increases and exceeds that produced by the Mexican cochineal (Dactylopius spp.).. When hydrochloric acid (HCl) is added to this solution, the color changes to light burgundy and a precipitate appears. (Cockerell, 1898)
Biology: Occurring on the leaves and twigs of misletoe on Quercus sp. (Cockerell, 1898j).
