Remarks
- Systematics: Species of Strandanna resemble species of two other South African genera: Diversicrus De Lotto, 1971 and Conicosoma De Lotto, 1971, by lacking multilocular disc-pores, and having only the posterior ostioles developed. They differ from species of Diversicrus and Conicosoma by having (character states of species of Diversicrus and Conicosoma are given in brackets): (i) trochanter and femur separate (fused); (ii) anal ring with six setae (two setae); (iii) the hind coxa slightly enlarged and of normal shape (greatly enlarged and shape sometimes aberrant) (De Lotto 1969, 1971). Strandanna multipora is similar to S. pristina in having: (i) tubular ducts with swollen inner apices; (ii) welldeveloped legs without fused segments; (iii) no multilocular disc-pores; (iv) hind legs with large translucent pores; (v) 6-segmented antennae; (vi) no circulus; (vii) cerarii restricted to anal lobe pair; (viii) tubular ducts present over both body surfaces, including between the legs; and (ix) anal ring setae with knobbed apices. Strandanna multipora differs as follows (character states of S. pristina are given in parentheses): (i) anal lobe cerarii each containing 4 or 5 conical setae (each with 2); (ii) tubular ducts each with a rim and sometimes with associated discoidal pores (without a rim and associated discoidal pores); and (iii) translucent pores on hind coxa, trochanter and femur (on coxa only) (De Lotto 1969). - Structure: Slide-mounted adult female body oval to broadly oval pyriform, abdomen narrowing distally, 1.40– 1.80 mm long, 1.20–1.75 mm wide. Eyes situated near margin, about 20–25 μm wide. Antenna 6 segmented, 130–140 mm long. Claw digitules capitate, about 20–25 μm long. Anterior ostioles absent; posterior ostioles poorly developed, without pores and setae, almost undiscernible. Anal ring about 110–130 μm wide, with 2 rows of pores and bearing 6 capitate setae, setae 120–130 μm long. (Kaydan, et al., 2026)
